I'm not even supposed to be here today - Dante Hicks quote

If you’ve ever worked a day in your life, this game is for you. If you’ve ever worked a dead end job, part-time job, or stared at a clock wishing your shift or life was over and not caring which, this game is doubly for you.

New Edition available here!  The first edition (this one) is no longer available.

Employee of the Month is a role playing game wherein players work such jobs, doing mundane tasks and dealing with difficult customers until they are suddenly hurled into a possibly dangerous and most likely hilarious situation. It might be an alien invasion, the apocalypse starting in your parking lot, or worse! Together with the General Manager (GM), players will create and play out a narrative, working together to solve or survive their story with whatever skills they possess, resources available to them at their workplace, and assumptions they hold about one another.

Additional Details

  • Great single-session rpg for game night with 10 minutes of set up, optional randomized plot and conflict generation, and most games go for only 2 hours.
  • The only things you'll need to play are these rules, some dice, and some scrap paper! Oh, and people of course.
  • Tips for playing virtually included.
  • Game design, writing, and artwork by Bryan Fischer.

This game uses the Shift Happens System, an intuitive and straightforward game engine where the game happens in multiple “shifts”, giving players chances to earn bonuses before shift really hits the fan.

Had such a blast with this game! Getting into it was quick and easy. The character creation is quick but makes interesting/fun characters, who are easy to get into thanks to the familiar starting settings. Using your skills to do mundane things like restocking some vinegar or operating a theme park ride while interacting with the other players is surprisingly fun.

And then the game really takes off in the second shift ... where you have to improvise turning that vinegar into a makeshift explosive or decide what to do when the ride you're operating gets mysteriously plucked into the sky. You'll see why.

Overall, this game is a great way to spend an evening with a casual group or more seasoned role-players. It's a true one-shot that creates some truly hilarious situations (and memories).
